Statement by Ugandans from Buganda Centre UK

We Ugandans in the Diaspora are concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Uganda.

We regret the death of Ugandans shot in cold blood by security forces while exercising their rights which are guaranteed in the constitution.  Our inner most condolences go to the families of the deceased.

 In addition

  1. We are concerned about the continued flagrant abuse of constitutional rights of Ugandans by Uganda government.
  2. We are of the understanding that the government has a responsibly to protect and guarantee freedom of movement within Uganda for all Ugandans including all traditional leaders.
  3. We are shocked by a decision by security forces to switch off air, transmission by C.B.S Radio and other radio stations.

 Given the above occurrences,

We strongly support the current civil mass action by Ugandans in the process of standing up and protecting their rights.

  1. We also call for a total and indefinite boycott of government owned New vision and Bukedde newspapers, as a consequence of the government decision to close down private media stations.
  2. We also call for a total switch off of both governments owned Bukedde and Vision FM radio stations.
  3. We call for a total boycott of goods and services provided by government associated companies including Zain Telecom, Warrid Telecom and UTL Telecom.
  4. We call for a total restriction of movement of all government vehicles in Uganda until government guarantees freedom of movement for all Ugandans

Now that we have come to this crisis point, its best that before issues are resolved, the following has to be done.

  1.  Government has to commit to guarantee all civil rights of all Ugandans as enshrined in the 1995 constitution without any conditions.
  2. Government has to ensure that injustices inflicted on Ugandans during the 1966 crisis are corrected.  There must be a complete return of the 9000 sq. miles to Buganda, a return of all county headquarters to the kingdom and introduction of Federal system of government for all regions of Uganda.
  3. There must be a complete overhaul and removal of the current Electoral Commission and replace it with one agreed upon by all stake holders.  There must also be implementation of recommendations by all observers, as made after the 2001, 2006 general elections, in order to facilitate the conduct of free and fair elections in 2011.
  4. There must be a complete stop to the rampant government corruption that has left 2 million Ugandans facing starvation and unimaginable poverty.
  5. The government must remove from parliament the 2007 Land Bill and 2009 Kampala Bill because they are malicious, ill intended and aimed at destroying the cultural and good inter-relationship of the people of Uganda.

  1. It very disappointing and unfortunate that the security situation is detoriating. but security forces cannot fight them selves, they are there to calm down the riots by these baganda hooligans, atleast i know even the slowest thinker knows that the this chaos is planned by Kabaka and his subjects.

We respect Kabaka as a Cultural leader, but if the Kabaka doesnot realise that he is under the leadership of a political leader called Museveni, then there wont be peace. Please let the leaders respect each other, if the president can call the Kabaka and he refuse to pick the call, what doe that mean?? how different is he from other cultural leader?? was he created from another planet or he is a spirit, i think he is non of the above so if he undermines the source of his power the central government, remember there cannot be two equal powers, one listens to the other and in this case its obvious.

Lastly lets look at our selves as Ugandas but if Baganda want to cook some sort of Genocide, where i have to identify my lineage, tribe and clan, to servive a lych, then they should be ready for an uprising from the rest of ugandas which results are definite, your tribe will be wiped out.

    For God and My Country.

  2. Can you Imagine an elder like Kabaka of Buganda saying he didnt know the president was the one calling him for 2 years??? does the king think he will get what he wants thru the media because he seems to indicate he has no communication with the president, so who does he talk to???

To show you how uncoodinated the Mengo government is Owek. Apollo Makubuya said it publically that he doesnt know the toxic works Lebega Medard said, the Katikiro not wanting to talk to the government, the kabaka boiling with pride not to meet the president, do you expect any progress with such an environment???

Please Mengo government just be polite and work with the central government because yo pride will take you no where and as i told you Uganda comes first then Mengo can come later, so as Uganda we can do without Kabaka, besides he was non exixtent, he was a Prince, but raised to Sabataka and then to Kabaka.

    For GOD and my Country

  3. Jjajja Muwanga,

Gentlemen you should exercise some restrain and count your words otherwise you inciting the general public by corrupting their minds. We need to exist as brothers and sisters. Claiming for your rights does not mean being insubordinated by those holding the powers.

Let use the little sense God gave to a dog in order to forge for peace. Otherwise your words are regretable.

  4. Jerome,

    Kirima Anderea (or Moses Magezi),

M7 says Kabaka should not get involved in politics, but when situations like these come up, he says he wants the Kabaka to come out and talk. Which is which? Should the Kabaka stay silent all through out or when M7 is being attacked? M7 is setting up a bad precedent propping up Banyala and inciting them. Should Baganda also say other cultural leaders should not visit their subjects in gazetted areas of Buganda. As far as I am concerned, King Oyo and the King of Bunyoro have a free reign in Buganda and can visit their subjects whenever they want. They have never had to ask the King of Buganda to allow them. The Kabaka should have been allowed his subjects in Kayunga and the Banyala were not obliged to attend.

  5. Joice Sseebotaka,

Yes! It is unfortunate that the “kabaka” think he should have the same power as the central government. Sorry Sseebo Kabaka.

  7. christine J. N. Kaluma,

It is a great shame that Ugandans have taken to hating each other similar to Hutu and Tutsi just before their 1994 genocide.
The Baganda have been very accommondating to all different tribes. Even Uganda takes its name from Buganda. Looking at the History of Buganda, many tribes especially from Bunyoro Kingdom would have long perished if it was not for Buganda Kingdom Welcoming them and even giving them land and opportunity to survive.

Ignorance of Buganda Kingdom generosity over the many years creates ingrates among those living in Buganda and envious of the total set up of the Kingdom of Buganda.
” Obutasiima babu lekera mbwa” the Baganda saying goes. It means it is a dog that is not grateful to its master.
Buganda had been built on assisiting and accepting other tribes.

If Buganda had been selfish, then the Kingdom should not have expanded. It would have been as backward as some other Kingdoms who cannot even tolerate people they speak the same language with, a good example was Rwanda, and Banyankole who cannot tolerate Bahima!!
Simply because Bahima call them Bairu, slaves. You will realise that in Buganda Banna Buddu are in the same category as Bairu but the great magical difference is that the Banna Buddu of Buganda would fight you if you labelled them non- Baganda. They are proud to associate and identify with thae Buganda Kingdom and many have not forgotten where they originated and fled to Buganda.

The spiritual difference is that Banna Buddu reciprocated with love shown to them by Baganda. The love between Baganda different tribes built a Kingdom you now see of Buganda and atribe you loathe in envy! Envy is a disease, only defeated by emulation and Unity.

Ugandans come together like Baganda, join with other tribes and increase your numbers and power like Baganda did. Failure of unity is seen in Rwanda, Ankole where hatred pervades different tribes and only builds envy of the majority tribe Baganda, who preferred unity with other different tribes.

Who has imported this Rwanda Tutsi/Hutu thinking of hatred in Uganda. It is a shame that the NRM government greatly loved by Baganda who sacrificed their love for Museveni, this is what is coming out of People who have benefitted from Buganda peacefull exisitance and hard work.

Museveni must apologise to Baganda for his lack of love for them as has been depicted by reprisals during riots and when he went to visit the mourners at Kasubi and added salt to wounds the mourners. Was it a curse or magic that created the death of three dead bodies! Majority tribes must be respected in all nations, it is only in Uganda where something has gone wrong similar to the Hutus in Rwanda as they were the majority tribe! Is this curse coming from Rwanda!I

    I quote,
“Lastly lets look at our selves as Ugandas but if Baganda want to cook some sort of Genocide, where i have to identify my lineage, tribe and clan, to servive a lych, then they should be ready for an uprising from the rest of ugandas which results are definite, your tribe will be wiped out.” wrote Kirima Andereya.on 11 September, 2009

SHAME ON YOU KIRIMA ANDEREYA TOGETHER WITH THOSE WHO ENVY UNITY OF BAGANDA!!.” Genocide will only finish those who are planning it against the Baganda. It is a backward thing to live in and with.
I am full of full of praises for Baganda’ as Buntu Bulamu” they were civilized, loving and gentle to foreigners who came to their land.
Baganda have been paid by by genocide in Mbararafrom men who had wrong thinking. Therefore, the Baganda failed to get love reciprocity from some bad thinking Banyankole!. I would not be surprised that history in Ruharo, Mbarara could be repeated out of Baganda envy.

Many people are myopic when tribes are involved. However, we are still proud of Prime Minister Mbaguta of Ankole who had invited Baganda to train his people the Banyankole in many different ways because they had been backward in progress. Mbaguta knew that Unity is strength! Tribes learn from others in order to progress and develope. We have all learned from others beginning like children. NRM must learn not to saw sees of hatred but of love and unity!! I hope the genocide plans would evaporate from thoughts of all tribes in favour for peace.

“Yes! It is unfortunate that the “kabaka” think he should have the same power as the central government. Sorry Sseebo Kabaka.”
I am just surprised of your quote above Joice .
I was lucky to have travelled widely in the world. Mostly when I spent my almost 8 years in Nigeria.

I had been educated on the usefulness of Kingdoms by a Nigerian Federal Attorney General who had witnessed great calamities during the Nigerian Biafra War as an Attorney General of the whole of Nigeria.

He seriously warned me that our traditional leaders were angels of survival during the catastrophic Civil war. That we should always keep them and not abolish them.

It was emphasized when I saw the chaos that emanated in Haiti during the Eath Quake. A lot of AID had been delivered but there was no organisation on the ground!Thousands had died in Haiti due to lack of leadership and organisation!

Therefore, Joice stop belabouring under false thinking that the Kabaka of Buganda would want to compete with the President. He is well brought up and cannot stoop as low as that for a second!

In Nigeria and Ghana, traditional rulers I had met are respected by Heads of State too. Uganda should borrow this respect and plant it in Uganda. Respect breeds peace and Unity for progress. Presidents must , MUST respect traditional Rulers.

That Museveni was stopped to visit the mourners, and he insisted and went is a sign of bad intention when dealinfg with a murder case. It was as if Museveni had been bewitched to sympathise with mourners that did not invite his presence.
We are all his subjects, but even a patient in the Hospital may refuse a President to force his way to visit him. It does not matter even if the Hospital belonged to the Government. Daughters and sons can also refuse their parents to their rooms! it does not matter even if the father built the house.

It breaks our traditions of mourning. Museveni has to learn Uganda is made up of different tribes. Force by Force is creating problems even by those who loved Museveni.
The killing of three people must be explained because it seems Uganda security men have become trigger- happy on one tribe the Baganda.

Museveni has had enough pomp to clear him of competion with the traditional ruler. No need for competition between Museveni and Mutebi.Museveni has Uganda and Mutebi is contented with about 7 million that are his Baganda subjects.

Museveni has become an aggressor in Mutebi’s space. We do not need to cheapen the Pesidency. Museveni needs keep his dignity and leave Mutebi alone. We have not seen Mutebi at Parliamentary Buildings! Might may not be right, Musveni.
Keeping a distance from Mutebi does not mean
Museveni is not President of Uganda. It means Museveni can cater for Buganda without provoking the King or the Baganda by Deaths. It means tolerance of differences.
Even if Museveni had bought a bed, when a wife in his house rejects him and closes herself in another bedroom, I am sure the Museveni I know would not order for a wife to be extracted from the room by breaking down the door or by shooting the children through anger. Museveni must respect the presidency of Uganda by nnot makng it a habit to shoot and kill wherever he appears . The Constitution swore Museveni to Protect all Ugandans and not pick the Majority tribe, Baganda for death in his presence. There is too much shootings in Uganda, at the University two Kenyans are dead and one Ugandan seriously wounded, at riots 27 are dead and over five hundred are wounded, and at funnerals, three are dead. Our security men have become murderers of their fellow Ugandans.WHY?

  9. Okello a learned friend,

    christine J. N. Kaluma
Girl you tripping what you wrote was total garbage now you claim you live in the USA you very when well know how blacks react to whites who refer to them as “negros”
Yo idea is like the blacks sh’d be happy to derogatory terms because the whites are the marjority. You very well know the ganda tribe annexed those areas it shows with by bringing the colonialist itself even before independence their aim was to make the rest of Uganda their colony and were shocked when the British told them it was impossible. So nobody was interested in being part of Buganda at one point .The 1966 crisis was as result of a democratic elections in counties that were not ineterested in your kingdom and when they exercised their right to show they weren’t interested in your kingdom yo imbecile Mutessa begun stocking weapons to cause war,The then Central government went to investigate the allegation out of guilt his guards put up an uprising. Now you very well kno that the present imbecile was told that his thing was more of a religion and not a political entity he has gone ahead to over step his line by interfering with politics.

On the issue of marjority tribes in Uganda. To begin with there is no majority tribe in Uganda there are large minorities. What do u want smaller minorities to do pay tribute to that imbecile you call a king.Go strum a banjo,

This is expected of you because among the baganda tradition you are organised in classes the balangira and bakopi where by the later is not to dare contradict with the former because the former is believed to posses semi god status. And when Uganda was being made as a country you did not sit down to learn other tribe’s cultures now in East and North madam it has always been about equality and promotion was by hard work not birth like it was in the central a leader has always been elected not appointed and he was seen a first among equals so if we see you guys trying to look for a special status in the country then you aint gonna have it easy like the above suppose.
My great grand dad and his dad were elected chiefs among the Adholas of Tororo the later defeated Muteesa 1 personally when he tried to invade Padhola. This is what he used to do in all the battles with Muteesa 1 he w’d let the enemy enter Padhola and whenever he was coming out thinking he was succesfull he w’d pounce on Muteesa 1 and his vulnerable soldiers when Muteesa 1 realised he risked losing his kingdom to the Adholas he never dared step Padholaagain so Madam we all got a heritage watch out with what you think some of us are.

  10. ssentongo,

Nice decussions and wish to contribute if given the opportunity
